09:20 pm - Hashirigaki #23 Title: The Laughing Game Fandom: Slayers Rating: PG / K+ Genre: general Character: Xellos Word count: 278 Summary: Everyone deserves a chance at being top dog - even a Mazoku.
Xellos was screaming.
Malus was laughing.
The Mazoku was enjoying seeing the Trickster Priest brought so low and, feeling peckish, he sent another tentacle stabbing through the supine form and relished in the fresh bout of shrieks that filled the air. Sweet music to his ears it was and put him in such a good mood that he laughed again, the sound echoing eerily off the walls of the dark cavern.
Malus had always watched jealously from the shadows, despising Xellos for his immense powers, his station elevated so far above most others of their race, and the favoritism bestowed upon him by the Mazoku Lord, Beastmaster Zelas. But now the tables had turned. Xellos was brought low, fallen into his trap, and now he was the one lying at Malus's feet like a beaten dog.
Malus was top dog now.
And he loved every moment of it.
"Well, I think it's time to end this game."
The words were spoken cheerfully. Malus only had time to blink and then, suddenly, he found himself flat on the ground and Xellos standing over him.
"Wha-?!"
"Tsk, tsk, tsk." Xellos wagged a finger at him. "You didn't seriously think it was going to be that easy, did you?"
"You've been playing me?" Malus growled.
"Don't think of it like that. Consider it a special service. A Mazoku should have his dearest wish granted, after all, if only for a moment. Especially before he dies."
Malus's eyes widened in horrified realization.
"Now," Xellos smiled pleasantly, "shall we begin?"
This time, it was the screams of Malus that rang in the air.
And the laughter of Xellos that echoed in the dark.
