Summary: He didn't care...what did any of it matter? The one he loved was dead.

The bark was rough against his back, the night indifferent to his lonely form. The sky was dark, the wind was cold, the land was barren, and the trees were bare. And he-

He didn't care.

Why should he? What did any of it matter?

The one he loved was dead.

His back slid down, clothes scratching against the rough tree bark. Down, down, down he slid until he was no longer standing but crouching on the frozen earth. He sat and stared unseeing at the night, thinking of nothing.

Then a chill breeze blew. And he knew.

It was coming closer.

It was familiar, bringing to mind myriad encounters in the past and perhaps even those to come in the future. He knew it well. The scent of clay and bones and other dark things that he could not name.

"Kikyou..."

And then she was there. Red and white and flowing black silk framing cold eyes of darkest brown - she drew closer and, with her, the scent of death and decay.

He didn't care.

Why should he? What did any of it matter?

The one he loved was dead.

Yes, the one he loved was dead.

And he would always come to her.

Always...

Been a while since I did one of these. I was feeling a bit morbid and it's plain to all who see what the result of that was!

Well, anyway, I hardly think I need to comment about who the characters were in this little drabble, right? =p

Thank you. Mood pieces are about all that I can manage with short stuff. Doesn't leave room for much else.
